Since the submission and approval of the initial Guatemala project, the political and social situation in Guatemala has evolved in a way that raised concerns regarding the feasibility and safety of organising the planned educational activities on site. After careful consideration, and in consultation with the school leadership, the decision was taken to adapt the project by relocating its field component to El Salvador. This modification was carried out with the authorisation of the school management.
Although the geographical destination has changed, the core educational objectives, structure, and pedagogical approach of the project remain exactly the same. The initiative continues to focus on fostering solidarity, intercultural understanding, and active citizenship among students through direct collaboration with local educational and community institutions. The activities planned in El Salvador will therefore replicate the pedagogical framework originally designed for Guatemala, ensuring continuity with the objectives presented in the approved proposal.
This initiative continues the long-standing solidarity partnership between EEB1 and educational centres in Guatemala, building upon the success and impact of the previous Guatemala Project 2025.
The 2025–26 edition further strengthens the pedagogical and social dimension through a structured child sponsorship programme (Parrainage Enfant and Parrainage Réfectoire), coordinated by students and teachers. This programme allows students to engage directly with tangible outcomes, receiving periodic updates and correspondence from the children they support, thereby deepening the sense of responsibility and connection.
The project integrates a comprehensive series of preparation activities within the school, including classroom awareness sessions, fundraising campaigns, intercultural learning workshops, and practical training for students who will lead presentations and solidarity actions. These preparatory steps ensure that participants fully understand the social, cultural, and educational context of the Guatemalan communities they will support.
During the S5 pedagogical trip to Guatemala, students actively participate in field activities designed to make a meaningful difference: supporting local educational centres, delivering pedagogical workshops, contributing to artistic and cultural projects, and providing assistance that complements the work of partner associations Caras Alegres and Educando Guatemala. The initiative promotes european values of empathy, solidarity, global citizenship, and civic engagement, while offering tangible educational and nutritional support to children in vulnerable communities.
All activities are strictly pedagogical in nature, encompassing workshops, intercultural exchanges, language sessions, reflection exercises, and project-led presentations. Each element is carefully aligned with curriculum areas such as ethics, religion, citizenship education, and social studies, ensuring that the project not only enriches students’ academic experience but also cultivates a lasting commitment to social responsibility and cross-cultural understanding.
